Perfume – The Many Types of Fragrances

So many perfumes with vastly different fragrances. How will we know what to choose and what will be most suitable for a particular individual? By classifying the different perfumes and grouping them into separate categories might make it easier to identify the characteristics of your favorite perfume. This however is not always easy because there are perfumes that fit into many categories. The following classification therefore is only a guideline to the variety of more popular perfumes known today.

Floral

Floral perfumes continue to be the most popular feminine fragrances and appeal to women of all ages. New floral perfumes are created daily and are dominated by the ever popular and classic perfumes such as Diorissimo by Christian Dior, Pleasures and Beautiful by Estee Lauder and since of recent, Stella by Stella McCartney. Florals are also categorized as fruity floral, green floral, single floral depending on the distinctive notes of the fragrance. Now a days however it’s quite common to find that floral perfumes are blended with scents of different notes such as melon, apple and bluebells which have also become quite popular. To name some of these perfumes; Island Kiss by Escada and Light Blue by Dolce and Gabbana.

Fruity

Fruity scents are very popular among younger women and teenagers. Fruity fragrances have fresh notes and are very refreshing. Perfumes with Fruity fragrances have notes of citrus, melons and peaches and some good examples are Lauren by Ralph Lauren, and Pour Femme by Dolce & Gabbana which lasts for a long time and are used by women on special occasions.

Orientals

Orientals are preferred by both men and women and has a rich and heady fragrance with notes of exotic flowers, musk, spices and resins. A well known examples of oriental perfumes are Shalimar by Guerlain, Poison by Christian Dior and Opium by Yves Saint Laurent all of which can be described as alluring and mysterious.

Aquatic

Aquatic perfumes bring you the clean, fresh smell of the sea and is made up of synthetic notes with a touch of floral and fruity blends. A very popular Aquatic perfume is Issey Miyake which has the freshness of a sea breeze or early morning dew.

Some perfumes are steeped in history while some have great romances attached to them. No matter what perfume you use, its bound to bring out the woman in you and put you in the right mood for whatever plans you have in mind.
